Clearwater Paper Corporation has introduced Velora™, a lightweight folding carton paperboard designed for everyday packaging applications, targeting converters and brand owners seeking performance and cost efficiency.

The new grade is positioned as an alternative to premium solid bleached sulfate (SBS) paperboard, offering lower basis weights while maintaining functional strength and versatility across folding carton and foodservice applications. The company stated that Velora is intended to support higher yield and consistent converting performance without requiring a shift to higher-cost substrates.

“Velora is a strategic expansion of our portfolio. It is purpose-built for value, efficiency and dependable converting performance,” said Arsen Kitch, president and chief executive officer. “It complements our premium Candesce® brand while giving customers a strong domestic option in the lightweight segment.”

According to the company, the product uses an optimized fibre blend designed to balance strength and printability while reducing overall material consumption. This approach is expected to help converters manage cost per carton while maintaining packaging performance requirements.

“Converters are looking for straightforward value: performance they can trust, supply they can count on and a lower cost per carton,” said Ruomeng Pang, vice president of marketing strategy and development. “Velora was designed for exactly that.”

The lighter fibre structure is also positioned to support material reduction efforts and assist customers in addressing sustainability and regulatory requirements. Clearwater Paper noted that the product is manufactured in the United States using domestic and imported materials, with an emphasis on supply stability and consistent lead times.

Velora meets key food-contact and environmental standards, including SFI-certified fibre sourcing and compliance with FDA 21 CFR requirements for food packaging materials.
